What is a Chakra?
A Sanskrit word meaning “wheel,” a chakra is a major energy center within the body. Like a wheel, a chakra is a spinning vortex of energy. Through these forces, we receive and process the many energies of life.
The human body has seven main chakras, each of which serves as a center for spiritual, physical and emotional energies. Each chakra corresponds individually to different aspects of our consciousness.
They also correspond to various glands of the body’s endocrine system. The seven chakras work as a system for our mind, body, and spirit to connect.
A chakra healing meditation is important to bring our bodies to a place of wholeness and balance. Incorporating chakras creates a harmonious relationship between your spiritual self and your physical self.
Here’s how to integrate your chakra system in a meditation.
Chakra Healing Meditation
Complete the following steps to align your chakra system:
1. Sit comfortably and focus on relaxing the body.
Find a comfortable seated position. Starting with your feet, focus on each part of your body, making your way up to your forehead. Focus on releasing stress and tension from each body part.
2. Focus on deep breathing.
Develop a relaxed, deep breath. When your mind wanders, bring it back to your breath. Visualize the breath transferring into your lungs and throughout the bloodstream.
As you breathe in, visualize how the oxygen nourishes your muscles and cells. As you breathe out, see how your breath releases toxins from your body.
3. Visualize your heart beating.
Begin to see your breath and heart working together to bring harmony in the body. Bring awareness to the life force your breath is creating in your heart beat.
4. Visualize energy in a bright orange color.
Each chakra has a color associated with its energy. In a chakra healing meditation, see the energy of your breath as a yellowish orange color. Visualize the color encompassing your whole body.
Imagine your being growing stronger as you are encompassed by this energy. Keep breathing deeply and steadily to keep the energy flowing.
5. Energize each chakra.
Start with your first chakra – the root chakra in the lower back. Imagine a swirl of energy taking place there. The energy gets stronger and brighter with each breath.
Then imagine that more energy is coming to that chakra from the earth. The earth’s energy combined with your breath-generated energy enlightens the root chakra.
Move up to energize the sacral chakra, solar plex chakra, heart chakra, throat chakra, head chakra, and finally to the crown chakra. Take your time infusing each of the seven chakras with energy.
6. Visualize all of the chakras working together.
See how the energy brings life to each chakra. Visualize the energy sources coming together.
After your chakra healing meditation, open your eyes and relax. Soak in the energy and positive vibrations you just created throughout your body.
